What is an AeroPod?

AeroPods are a refreshing new concept in art. Rather than static objects made for contemplation, they are personalized, meaningful sculptures that invite you to interact and discover a delightful and unexpected surprise within.

The AeroPod Story

In 2001, after twenty years as an independent artist/furniture-maker, Dean Jackson was seeking inspiration to create a signature piece that was truly unique in the world. He found it in an unlikely place; a classic car show, where the colours, forms and chrome details of yesteryear prompted a fervour of research, sketching and material experimentation. The result was an aerodynamic, pod-like automotive cabinet/sculpture with a grille door and an interior that could be customized in an infinite number of ways. The “AeroPod” was born.

The Evolution

Over the years and 23 incarnations later, the AeroPod has transformed from an “automotive-inspired sculpture” to a creative vessel for exploring new themes of industrial achievement, such as aviation, rail and watercraft. Some are created to push artistic boundaries, while others are commissioned to reflect the personal preferences and interests of individual patrons. Like the famous collection of Fabergé eggs, no two are alike and early on it was decided to limit the series to 49 pieces as a way of insuring they are not only beautiful to look at, but are valuable investments as well.

What do AeroPods do?

AeroPods celebrate man’s ingenuity and brilliant historic achievements by focusing on specific examples of successful design. Certain automobiles, boats and airplanes have stood out over time and are worthy of dedication. Details that identify these iconic machines are incorporated into the AeroPod’s design features, as are the client’s personal preferences for the interior. Will it be a secret bar and humidor for the entertainer, an amusement game for the arcade lover, or a watch-winder for the horologist? Anything, even a waterfall (Pod #11) can be designed into an AeroPod. You decide the theme, like your favourite car, boat or aircraft, and you specify a function, which Jackson then skilfully blends into one artistic sculpture. AeroPods are the perfect gift for yourself or loved one because they combine beauty, creativity, meaning and craftsmanship, as well as function and lasting investment value.

How are AeroPods Made?

AeroPods are completely handmade, original works of art. Everything on them is either made from scratch or modified in some way to enhance the chosen theme. From the exterior shell to the period-correct gauges and operating mechanisms, all the elements are artfully engineered and crafted with care. Working with wood, metal, glass, composites, led lighting and multi-step finishes, Jackson spends roughly 6 to 18 months on each creation, ensuring that it’s made to last for generations. Pricing and Ordering

AeroPods are currently sold directly from Jackson’s studio and personalized commissions are welcome. Prices start at US$19,000 for the classic Pods and $29,000 for the Aviation Pods. Prices vary with design and interior details. Browse the Gallery to see which AeroPods are available for immediate shipment, or click here for a quotation on your unique, customized version. International shipping is available. Get a quote by filling out the form indicating your chosen theme and interior preference and Jackson will respond with an accurate quotation. Should you wish to proceed, a sketch will be prepared for your approval before any work commences. A 50% deposit gets the project rolling, with the remainder due upon completion.
